Florida Palmetto Care

Maintenance of the Florida palmetto is very simple and easy. It is very adaptable to a wide range of soils. The Florida palmetto can grow on moist, sandy, clay, acidic, slightly alkaline and well-drained soils.
Even though the Sabal palm is drought resistant when established, occasional watering is recommended for best growth.
The palm grows well in full sun or partial shade. The Sabal Palmetto is cold hardy and can take temperatures down to 7-10 F. It can be grown in USDA Zones 8-11.
The Florida palmetto is extremely salt, wind, hurricane and fire tolerant. It is easy to transplant and doesn’t show transplant shock.
The Sabal palm is sensitive to potassium deficiencies. Regular fertilization and mineral supplements are beneficial to the Palmetto.
